Through BBBS and its programs, inspiring relationships are continuously formed between two people that otherwise may have never crossed paths. And for some Big/Little matches, the bond is so immediate that regardless of how long they’ve been together they become family.
After completing six months in the program, Keazia’s mother, Keondra says, “It didn’t take long before they became use to one another; it was a match made in heaven.” She continued to explain how Brittany has changed not only Keazia’s life, but also their entire family.
Brittany and Keazia both seem to adore and admire one another. Brittany says that Keazia is adorable, smart, sweet and always full of surprises. “I’m certain she loves spending time with me, just as I love spending time with her. She has a beautiful and loving family whom are very supportive,” Brittany said.
One of the most exciting activities they have done together was the Fashion Talent Show at UF last January. Brittany surprised her Little by taking her “behind the scenes.” The bigger surprise came when Keazia arrived and was asked to be a part of the show. Keazia is an aspiring fashion designer so this was a dream come true. “That night, Keazia stole the spotlight,” Brittany proudly stated. “She wasn’t scared at all. She modeled out at the end of the scene, leading the other models to follow for a last run through.”
Brittany is also a full-time student at UF, works at UF and Shands Congenital Heart Center, president of SISTUHS, Inc. and an aspiring lawyer. She first began with BBBS as an intern and after being involved decided to become a Big Sister. “The most rewarding part about being a Big Sister is realizing and knowing that it’s the Little’s choice and desire to have a Big,” Brittany said.
Keazia and her mother first heard about BBBS at the Boys and Girls Club. They also met the BBBS program director, Chanelle, at UF’s Gator Campaign for Charities, which Keondra says changed their lives forever. “I am certain that when Keazia grows up she will always remember Brittany as her role model and will be eager to stay focus in college and eager to become a college graduate, just because she was able to meet this special person who we call Britt!”
