Mayor Craig Lowe is being recognized for his continued service to the people of our community, most recently exemplified by joining the BBBS Board of Directors. Recently, the Mayor proclaimed March 18th – 20th BBBS Bowl for Kid’s Sake Weekend. Bowl for Kid’s Sake is held annually and features activities and competitions involving bowling and billiards that help raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Stuart Craig Lowe, better known as Craig Lowe was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He came to Gainesville in 1982 to attend the University of Florida and received a master’s degree in Zoology. Lowe quickly became involved in politics where he has served numerous positions in Gainesville. In April of 2003 Lowe began serving the people of Gainesville as Gainesville City Commissioner, filling the newly created District IV seat. He was elected Mayor in 2010 and assumed office on May 20th. He currently serves as Chair of the Gainesville City Commission’s Equal Opportunity Committee, is a member of the Regional Utilities, Community Development, and Countywide Visioning & Planning committees as well as the local Community Redevelopment Agency, the Gainesville/Alachua County Metropolitan Transportation Planning Org. and the Alachua County Library Governing Board.
